The Poetics of Construction
So Jing Wen | Mentor: Sam Conrad Joyce
Architecture is invariably as much about structure and construction as it is about space and abstract form. This thesis seeks to explore the spatial and geometric potential of bamboo as a building material, more specifically, the architecture of Colombian architect Simón Vélez. The research will focus on the poetic dimension of the translation from line drawings by the architect to three-dimensional space. The language derived from this study will then be applied to the design project, as a reinvention of Vélez’s novel techniques in bamboo construction.
