Merging Scapes

In the pursuit of being self-sustainable as a country, Singapore looks to increase its local food production to 30% by 2030. This means that the growth of crops needs to be intensified in creative ways in this small country.

This project looks into the possibility of integrating urban farms into commercial buildings, along with research facilities focusing on food production. Taking the history of the building as a power station, it reinterprets food as the new currency of power in the near future and re-adapts and re-imagine the building’s role as a producer of power.

This is being done by introducing funnels as a main feature of the building that directs light into it and collects rainwater to support the growth of local produce within. Supporting programs such as retail, F&B and workshop spaces are introduced to activate the space.By bringing food production closer to the community, this creates an opportunity to create educational interaction and reduce costs related to food transport.
