The Life of the Forest
Ong Wuengkee
Constructed of many acres of timber, the roof of the Notre Dame was aptly dubbed the Forest.
The event that befell the Notre Dame in April 2019 need not be a tragedy. It is like in any forest superorganism, but another phase in its life cycle of death to rebirth. The intervention then takes you through the journey of the life of the Notre Dame forest, remembering the past, appreciating the present and moving forward to the future.
Unlike the old roof, a forest too dense would burn too bright, and in the wake of this event, the new Forest must give way, as shown by the new roof concept.
