Pyongsan Nuclear Termini
Shawn Low Hui An & Ng Wen Qi
The unassuming city of Pyongsan has a main function of uranium mining and processing. Considering the recent denuclearisation talks, what happens to Pyongsan once its function becomes obsolete, and what happens to all the nuclear waste in North Korea? Taking these into account, a mixed-use nuclear waste treatment complex was proposed; complete with residential and visitor apartments, leisure spaces in the form of activity domes, and the factory, stemming from the North Korean microdistrict ideology. Our design also focuses on varying types of corridors to create different experiences for both workers and tourists, as well as having existing elements converted to defensive architecture for a post-current civilisation future.
