Apertura Urbana
Michelle Gouw
The project imagines an extension of the Uffizi as an aperture to Florence's urban fabric. Two courtyards are created to connect the Uffizi via underground following the grids of the existing museum. The scheme is crafted to explore possibilities of creating a dynamic museum while still preserving Florence's skyline. The design emphasizes on the urban gesture in the context, bringing arts to the public realm. The structure is inspired by the series of arcs commonly found in the enclosed courtyard of the Italian garden, and this reinterpretation translates the repetition of the arcs in a geometrical manner.
