Inujima, along with the numerous island communities within the Setouchi region of Japan, is currently facing a silver tsunami, with a dwindling and ageing population. A current method of intervention to this pressing issue is the transformation of the islands into art destinations, incorporating various art installation pieces to their landscape. To further iterate the usage of art as a revitalization tool, this thesis proposes a shift in the main economic sector of Inujima to that of the art industry through the creation and employment a new typology of performance space to rejuvenate the island’s community.
